As the m&W Website Goes Live: Lessons from a Year of Cold Start
The journey to build a new order for digital civilization has begun. The gains and losses of a year of cold start, and the metamorphosis from an idealistic charter to shipping engineered products.
When you click into the m&W EcoFi website today and see the line “From ME to WE, rebuilding the order of digital civilization,” it may look to you like just another new project making its debut in the Web3 world. But for every initiator of m&WDAO and every early Builder, this moment caps a full year of “cold start” carried out quietly in the dark.
In that year, we went from a Project Charter written on a Notion page to the launch of the product at app.cmw.place; we went through countless paradigm debates over “AI & Web3”; and we endured the solitude and the perseverance of screening our earliest core proto-nucleus (NFT) holders relying purely on the “consensus gravity field,” with no loud marketing push.
With the official website now live, I would like — from a founder’s perspective — to talk candidly about what m&W learned from this year of cold start, and about the “gains” and “losses” we encountered along the way.
1. What We Gained: Anchoring Narrative, Product, and an Economic Foundation in a Frenzied Industry
Looking back on the past year, m&W’s most essential gain was its metamorphosis from an “idealistic charter” to “shipping engineered products.”
A Clear Ultimate Narrative: the “Intelligent Order of AI & Web3”
At the founding of the project, we kept returning to one proposition: when AI brings an explosion of productivity, what becomes of the production relations of human society? Over this year we worked out a clear answer — our implementation path iterated from a Web3 media protocol (trying to unleash the power to supervise Web3 through natively Web3 media) into EcoFi (using Web3 mechanisms to remove friction from ecosystem collaboration and accelerate the ecosystem’s iterative growth). Through that process, our founding intention — “From ME to WE, rebuilding the order of digital civilization” — only grew firmer, and we wrote the thesis we laid down at the project’s inception — AI + Web3 = a civilization that knows where to stop — into the official website.
We are not building a content platform, nor another Zhihu. The essence of m&W 1.0 is a Builder Signal Network — designed to aggregate the top 1% of super-capable people in AI & Web3, and ultimately to “let the blockchain establish order for intelligent networks”. That crisp narrative became the compass that kept us from drifting off course all year.
Shipping the Product’s “Dual-Version” Iteration Loop
Over the cold-start year we knew the awkwardness of fundraising on a demo at valuations below expectations, and we weighed plans to pre-sell NFTs to the market first. But as circumstances unfolded, we ended up on the difficult-but-right path: leaning on the strength of m&WDAO’s consensus, with core Builders grinding away at the product powered purely by conviction.
-
The core app app.cmw.place is officially live. It carries the weight of building the “consensus gravity field,” turning users’ browsing, interactions, sharing, and other actions into value through the behavior-mining (PoA) model.
-
The feature-iteration testbed pre.cmw.place is running in parallel, used for high-frequency testing of the incentives and verification targeting “judgment and insight”.
Through the product, we have made “contribution is mining” more than an empty slogan.
An Asset Foundation That Balances “Sovereignty” and “Credit”
On the economic model and governance structure, we completed a highly innovative “twin-falcon” design:
-
Community sovereignty (CMW Token): of the total supply of 1 billion tokens, 70% is firmly locked to the community — including 600 million tokens for behavior mining on a linear release schedule stretching 20 years — ensuring that long-termists capture the underlying value of what remains.
-
A two-tier NFT architecture: decoupling the limited run of 20,000 rights NFTs (the asset foundation) from permission NFTs (SBTs) built on Vitalik’s theory (the identity kernel rooted in on-chain reputation). This year we launched the FREE MINT of the “Consensus Proto-Nucleus,” working hard to screen in the first cohort of “digital civilization builders” willing to live and die together with the project.
2. What We Lost: Friction, Restraint, and Pain Points on the Cold-Start Road
Frankly speaking, a cold start is not just passion — it also leaves the bruises of idealism colliding with reality.
The “Cognitive Threshold” Brought by Complex Mechanisms
To realize a genuinely trustless EcoFi protocol, we designed extremely rigorous mechanisms — from the PoA behavior-mining weight model, to the SBT credit graph based on on-chain reputation, to the future T-score admission threshold. These designs are perfect in mathematics and logic, but in the early cold-start period they imposed heavy “cognitive friction” on users. Many users accustomed to Web3’s brute-force “ape into memecoins” culture needed a very long learning cycle when confronting m&W’s deeper digital-civilization thesis. How to lower the front-end “friction” while keeping the protocol hardcore is where we did not do well enough over the past year — and that is why we decided, alongside running the product, to add an official website that introduces the project systematically.
Deliberately Restrained Marketing and the Slow Widening of Our Circle
Over the past year, we ran virtually no large-scale toxic marketing or paid user acquisition. We firmly believed that screening for the “1% super-capable” had to rely on the natural gravity generated by content acting as the proton. This restraint ensured the extremely high purity of our first 200 Genesis and Consensus Proto-Nucleus nodes (mainly from ThePrimedia’s digital migration and veteran Builders), but it also meant the project broke out of its circle very slowly at first. In a “fast-food” crypto market, that solitude tested the resolve of every core member.
The Early Pains of “Trustless-ifying” On-Chain and Off-Chain Collaboration
The Project Charter once promised to iterate collaboration based on personal acquaintance or contracts into coordination based on cryptographic proof. Yet in the first cold-start year, the “dynamic dual salary” payouts to core contributors and the review of merit awards still depended, to a degree, on high-frequency off-chain communication and interpersonal trust. A true “distributed automatic order” can only be fully resolved once the EcoFi protocol launches in the m&W 2.0 phase. This temporary gap between the ideal and the technical roadmap cost us a fair amount of “trust friction tax” in day-to-day collaboration.
3. Conclusion: Toward m&W 1.0, the Starting Point of a New Order
Everything we learned from a year of cold start condenses into a single line: knowing is easy, doing is hard; steadfastness itself is order.
The launch of the official website cmw.place marks the formal close of m&W’s “Phase 0” of quietly building strength, as we step fully into the new milestone of m&W 1.0 (2026—2027: the Consensus Gravity Field). With the full rollout of Consensus Proto-Nucleus NFT minting, and with the super-node system and passive mining coming online next, every product test we have run on the m&W 1.0 product MVP app.cmw.place will become leverage for moving a much larger ecosystem.
We know full well that letting the blockchain establish order for intelligent networks is an interstellar voyage full of the unknown. Our thanks go to every Builder who quietly gave their all over the past 365 days — in the Notion charter and in the testbed product.
From ME to WE. The website is ready; the app is launched. The dividend anchor for early civilization builders has been dropped, and the journey to build a new order for digital civilization is underway.
