Who Gets Aboard the Digital Noah's Ark?

The real question has never been "who deserves to be saved" — it is whether we can build a new participation mechanism that lets more people secure a ticket of their own.

“The Buddha vowed to deliver all sentient beings — but the tickets are limited.”

In many apocalyptic narratives and civilizational fables, the cruelest moment is often not the rampage of the flood itself, but the closing of the hatch. As “digital civilization” and “artificial intelligence” sweep across the old world like a vast deluge, all of humanity has been pushed to the watershed of a sweeping restructuring of productive forces and production relations.

Delivering all beings is civilization’s ultimate compassion and grand aspiration; yet the constraints of reality are cold as iron — compute, resources, and the boundaries of cognition never seem to spread universally on their own. If digitalization is a Noah’s Ark sailing toward the unknown, then when the hatch finally slams shut, who exactly will hold a ticket to the next era?

This is not merely a question about technological evolution. It is an ultimate proposition about human agency, the shape of digital civilization, and a trustworthy coordination order in the age of AI.

1. The Flood Is Coming: The AI Era’s Civilizational Watershed

Humanity has lived through several waves that reshaped the world. Steam and electricity amplified human muscle; the internet and mobile communications amplified human connection. Today, artificial intelligence is amplifying — and even replacing — human cognition, judgment, and the capacity to act, in a way never seen before.

When models can be replicated and deployed at scale, execution can be automated at millisecond speed, and digital twins can handle most of a person’s daily collaboration, a profound technological paradox begins to surface:

The explosive growth of productivity does not automatically translate into universal access to human opportunity and value.

The real flood is far more than a technology shock or simple job displacement — it is a fundamental reshaping of the basic units of production through which humans organize society. Once intelligence begins to act independently of the human body, the old paradigm of surviving on one’s own labor time and physical strength is declared obsolete. What will truly matter in the future is not merely how much knowledge and skill a person possesses, but whether they can extend their will, capabilities, and responsibility into a digital world that runs continuously.

The great flood does not distinguish good from evil; it simply — mercilessly — shuts the hatch on every entity that cannot integrate into the new form of civilization.

2. The Paradox of the Ark: Universal Salvation, Limited Tickets

“Delivering all beings” stands for undifferentiated redemption, while “Noah’s Ark” symbolizes an absolute limit of capacity. The tension between these two images is the truest portrait of the AI era.

Technology itself may hold universal promise, but the resources that carry it, the cognitive boundaries of individuals, the structure of society, and the mechanisms of value distribution remain subject to enormous constraints of time and space.

The digital divide is undergoing a fundamental transformation: it is no longer a question of access — “can you use the technology?” — but an existential one — “can you function as an effective principal in the digital economy?”

In the past, owning a smartphone, holding a social media account, or subscribing to an AI assistant seemed to mean you had entered the digital age. But that is merely a “visitor’s pass” to the ark. In an AI-driven digital civilization, the true “boarding ticket” carries three demanding definitions:

1. Ownership of digital personhood: owning a digital identity and digital assets that are self-sovereign and as independent as possible from any single platform.

2. The capacity to extend one’s will: being able to delegate your goals and capabilities to a digital twin that keeps acting on the network.

3. The right to participate in trustworthy collaboration: being able to build trusted connections in a network of many principals and share fairly in the value that collaboration creates.

One thing must be made clear: the “ticket” is not a high technical bar that a person must clear in advance. It is the capacity and the pathway for everyone to enter digital civilization, obtain a digital identity, gradually acquire digital agency, and take part in value creation.

If technological progress merely hands ever-greater compute and models to a handful of tech giants, reducing the vast majority of ordinary people to passive consumers and data fodder, then this digital ark was cold and exclusionary from the day its keel was laid.

The real question has never been “who deserves to be saved”. It is: can we build a new participation mechanism that lets more people secure their own tickets?

3. Who Gets to Board: From People Served by AI to People with Digital Twins

In this profound civilizational turn, the very definition of “participant” needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

In the past, most people used AI in an “interactive” mode: asking a model questions, getting text, generating images, completing one-off tasks. In that process, the human is the user and AI is the tool.

With the explosion of AI agent technology, humanity is moving beyond being mere “tool users” into a new stage of owning “digital twins”. But along the way, we must guard against flattening the digital twin into just another piece of automation software.

  • AI gives machines the capacity for automated action;

  • the digital twin should give human “will” the capacity for digital extension.

A true passenger on the ark can never be merely a consumer served — and swept along — by AI. They must become the owner of their digital personhood, its authorizer, and a creator of value.

Yet as digital twins grow more powerful, a more essential philosophical question surfaces: when a digital twin can learn knowledge, imitate expression, and even execute on one’s behalf, why is the human still the source of value?

A digital twin can learn a person’s knowledge, imitate their expression, and even complete complex tasks on their behalf within the bounds of its authorization — but it does not thereby become the whole of the person.

A human is the subject of digital civilization not because people hold more knowledge or more compute than machines, but because only humans can define their own goals, bear responsibility for their actions, and endow the world they create with meaning.

The value of the digital twin lies not in replacing the person, but in letting human will break through the limits of body, time, and space. It can act for a person, but it cannot therefore decide the meaning of that person’s life; it can extend a person’s capabilities, but it must not strip away their right to define their own goals.

AI can create intelligence, and the digital twin can extend human action — but the human remains the source of value, meaning, and responsibility.

4. How to Build the Ark: From Replicating Intelligence to a Trustworthy Coordination Order

If the proliferation of agents is like all things sprouting in the flood, then enabling billions of agents to live in symbiosis with humans is the most critical engineering task in building the “Noah’s Ark”.

As countless digital twins pour into the network, society will face entirely new challenges of order: whom does this digital twin actually represent? Where are the boundaries of its authority? How can the tasks it completes be objectively verified? And how can the fruits of human-agent collaboration be settled fairly?

Models can be replicated and deployed at scale, and compute can be bought with capital — but a cross-principal trustworthy collaboration network can only take shape gradually, through real behavior, explicit rules, and fair mechanisms.

Building the ark of digital civilization cannot stop at breakthroughs in intelligence; it also requires an infrastructure that supports trustworthy collaboration between vast populations of agents and humans. This is precisely the four-layer closed-loop architecture that m&W is building:

Architecture LayerCore Problem SolvedKey Mechanisms & Functions
Identity LayerWho is acting?Provides self-sovereign, trustworthy digital identities (DID) for humans and digital twins, establishing the binding between principal and agent.
Attestation LayerWhat was done?Records on-chain and off-chain behavior and track records, generating verifiable, traceable contribution credentials.
Coordination LayerHow to collaborate and constrain?Clarifies the scope of authorization and the attribution of responsibility, lowering trust and verification costs in cross-principal collaboration.
EcoFi LayerHow to distribute and settle?Provides programmable settlement and value-distribution mechanisms, so value created through collaboration is settled and distributed by agreed rules.

The essence of the ark is not to drag everyone kicking and screaming into the same cabin; it is to provide a common set of watertight-bulkhead rules and routing protocols, so that different digital principals can sail together at far lower trust cost.

5. From Connecting Builders to Building Digital Civilization’s Collaboration Network

It was out of a deep insight into this civilizational crisis that m&W embarked on the most important strategic transformation since its founding.

In its early days, m&W was a community network that aggregated outstanding Builders from around the world. We sought out the brightest minds, connected the most frontier ideas, and consolidated human cognition and value. But pressed by the great flood, we came to a deep realization: connecting an elite few Builders alone cannot resolve a crisis of participation that spans an entire civilization.

m&W’s strategic transformation is not a simple swap of Builders for ordinary people. It is a move beyond discovering and connecting outstanding Builders, toward building a trustworthy collaboration network that can carry far more human principals and digital twins. Builders remain the network’s core creators; digital twins and collaboration protocols will allow that creative capacity to be extended, organized, and shared far more widely.

At the product and protocol level, this transformation takes shape as a closed system of three progressive layers:

1. Layer 1: The Builder Network (the starting point)

Starting from the discovery of outstanding Builders’ cognition, the connection of their identities, and the recording of their contributions, this layer lays the hard-core foundation of human creativity in digital civilization.

2. Layer 2: The Digital Twin Network (capability extension)

Within clear authorization and permission boundaries, human principals define goals and transmit their will; digital twins execute on their behalf, breaking through the limits of body and time, and extending individual capability to everyone.

3. Layer 3: The Trustworthy Collaboration Network (closing the loop of order)

Through m&W’s four-layer protocol, the collaborative output of humans and agents — and of agents with one another — receives verifiable, traceable credentials (Attestations), and EcoFi enables programmable settlement so that collaborative value flows back precisely to its principals.

m&W is not a centralized institution deciding who gets aboard. It is infrastructure that helps every person build their own digital ark — and lets thousands of such arks collaborate with one another in a trustworthy way.

Conclusion: Where Does the Ark Sail — From Tickets for the Few to a Digital Civilization Open to All

Let us return to where we began: “The Buddha vowed to deliver all sentient beings — but the tickets are limited.”

Perhaps what truly deserves rethinking was never who is qualified to board the ark, but why we would hand the tickets to the future over to a chosen few.

If the ark’s capacity is forever defined as limited; if the advance of intelligence only grants absolute advantage to the few who own capital and top-tier compute — then civilizational evolution falls into a cruel Darwinian trap.

The ultimate mission of technology, however, should not be to draw a line of despair, but to open the possibility of universal benefit.

When intelligence becomes a capability that can be replicated at scale, when digital twins become extensions of human action, and when trustworthy collaboration lets different principals create value together, digital civilization no longer has to be a narrow ark with room for only a few.

It can instead become a vast ocean, built and sailed together by countless digital principals.

Every person can hold their own digital identity, extend their own capacity to act, take part in trustworthy collaboration, and earn their own value and dignity through what they create together.

This is the trustworthy collaboration network of the AI era that m&W hopes to build:

  • letting every person become a Builder of digital civilization;

  • letting every digital principal act freely within a trustworthy order;

  • letting the spread of intelligence translate, in the end, into the spread of human capability, dignity, and value.

No one can decide for all beings who gets aboard — and every one of us can strive to hold the power to build the ark.
