To a large extent, over the course of this bull-to-bear transition — especially in the year just past, 2022 — a group of steadfast crypto ecosystem Builders has carried us out of the zero-sum hype and speculation game of the coin world and into the industrial ecosystem building of blockchain/Web3.

Goodbye, 2022! It was an extraordinarily hard year, with confidence in crypto repeatedly on the verge of collapse. Yet this year is certain to earn its share of ink in the annals of the crypto economy: one landmark event after another — each, on its own, enough to break the industry’s spirit — landed within this single year, and still the market did not crater the way it did at the 2018 cycle turn.

We judge that “the 2022 bear market has bottomed out.” That is a difficult case to make, because a good number of fairly elite friends in crypto investment circles have watched their confidence in blockchain/Web3 burn to ash across one turbulent bear cycle after another — some have retreated into the old memory that crypto is nothing but a zero-sum financial game and gone looking for investment logic there; others peer ahead, only to discover, disheartened, that few Web3 projects will generate real cash flows in the next year or two, or even longer.

We still need to recover some confidence — to look back on the past and out toward the future from a larger historical vantage.
